The rise in traffic during the first two weeks of GTA5 is due to GTA3 and GTA4 traffic increasing relative to each other, according to an analysis conducted by traffic analytics company TrafficKing.
The GTA3/GTA4 traffic surge was the largest in more than four years and set a new record for monthly traffic growth in GTA history, the analysis revealed.
The previous highest growth was in February 2017, according the analysis, which was conducted from January 25 to March 16, 2017.
“The GTA3 traffic surge has increased from 50.6% of traffic during this time period to 78.1% of that time period, or approximately 3.7x growth,” TrafficKing said in a statement.
The spike was driven by the release of the game’s first expansion pack, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.
In addition to GTA5, the GTA3 surge also impacted GTA4, which saw its traffic rise by 12.4%.
In GTA3, GTA4 and GTA5 traffic rose together during the week of March 1-3.
This was the highest combined increase in traffic since December 2011, according TrafficKing’s data.
The company also noted that GTA4 had its largest spike during the same time period in April.
It was a record-setting week for GTA4 during the expansion pack.
The traffic surge also was driven in part by GTA5’s massive release of a new map and character customization pack in late March.
In that week alone, the game saw its average daily traffic increase by 10.7%.
During that time frame, GTA5 logged 1.6 billion monthly unique users.
GTA5 had a traffic surge of 3.1x during the month of March, and that’s the second-highest single-month increase in GTA5 history, behind GTA4’s 2.7X spike in December.
GTA4 was the biggest GTA5 spike ever, and it came after a month that saw GTA5 record more than 100 million unique users in a single day.
The increase in total traffic during that period was also the largest since GTA4 in February, 2017, the same month it launched its latest expansion pack called Grand Theft Autosport.
GTA6, which launched last month, is set to hit stores in May.
GTA7 is also set to launch on May 1.
TrafficKing CEO Kevin Johnson said the GTA5/Gta6 traffic surge is the biggest for any single month in GTA’s history, and was the reason why he believes GTA6’s launch is “going to be one of the biggest launches in GTA History.”
He said that GTA5 and GTA6 combined were the most trafficked games in the world during that time.
GTA1 was the only other game to hit more than 50 million unique monthly users in the month.
